Fun ziplining event with Events & Adventures Dallas

The Dallas Club Goes Zip-Lining

Last Weekend the Houston and Dallas Events & Adventures clubs got together and spent the weekend zip-lining and horseback riding in Nacogdoches. We stayed at the Zip Inn, and we could hear the zip liners flying from the moment we arrived. The lines were so close to our lodge that we could yell to the riders from our lawn chairs as they flew past us.

We spent the first night hanging out around the camp fire, and we learned a little about each other. Then early Saturday morning we feasted on a full breakfast that our members helped make, and then we were off.

It was a cool morning so the good people at Rose Lake Ranch let us borrow scarves. We broke up into two groups. After the first group mounted up and headed out, those of us who stayed at the ranch met the locals, who mostly consisted of llamas, foals, potbellied piglets, goats, deer, chickens and all kinds of rabbits.

When the first group got back the rest of us got our turn on the horses. We went up and down hills, through the woods and if you were lucky (or unlucky depending on your terrain preference) through the creeks. The land was gorgeous and it was a unique experience—we didn’t have to follow the trail thanks to our guides, and truly got to experience nature on horseback.

After a great barbecue lunch we headed to the zip line course. We had an awesome time zip-lining through the trees. The guides were great; they made sure we were safe and but also let us stretch our wings and get adventurous. Our group had a great time both teasing and encouraging each other. Some were daredevils and others were afraid to leave the platforms, but we all helped each other out and made sure that all of us had fun.

After dinner was over and the sun set, many of us decided to try the nighttime glow-in-the-dark zip-lining. The platforms had rope lights and everyone wore glow in the dark necklaces so the guides could catch them. It was a less intimidating option for those who were afraid of heights (since you couldn’t see the ground). We spent the rest of the night by the fire with s’mores and popcorn, enjoyed each other’s company and looked back on all the amazing memories we’d made as members of Events & Adventures Houston and Dallas!

Events & Adventures Santa Clara Dishes on Their Weekly Activities

What’s a “typical” week like with Events & Adventures? Well, we started the week with an incredible hibachi dinner at Benihana. Then on Tuesday night over 20 of our members gathered for our weekly tradition of a little sand volleyball—with lot of eating, drinking and laughing out loud mixed in.

On Wednesday, we had an event at Vino Locale set up exclusively for our members. We call these events ‘Premier Club’ events. Our members had the entire Secret Garden patio to themselves as they sampled wine, and enjoyed the musical stylings of a live jazz guitarist.

Then, we celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day together by laughing until our sides hurt thanks to the antics of comedian Dana Carvey performed, who performed at a comedy club called The Improv. On Friday night we got a private room at Bowlmor, the most upscale bowling alley in the Silicon Valley, where we had exclusive access to a bocce ball court, ping-pong and a bar.

We christened the weekend by meeting celebrities and touring the incredible movie memorabilia at Steve Wozniak’s Comic Con on Saturday morning. Our members met and took pictures with Jeremy Renner (Avengers), Nathan Fillion (Castle), Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future), William Shatner (Star Trek), R2D2 and many other iconic characters and celebrities. We even got to sit in the actual DeLorean car used in the movie Back to The Future, see Wilson (Tom Hank’s Volleyball friend from Castaway), come within arm’s reach of Iron Man’s helmet and marvel at Wolverine’s adamantium claws.

But that was just the beginning of the day. We ended on Saturday night at Pure Lounge with our Young Professionals event, which is geared toward members under 40. Our members had a great time dancing and enjoying the nightlife together.

We ended the weekend by giving our members the choice between Skeet Shooting at a beautiful country club or going on a GPS scavenger hunt throughout Redwood City. During the scavenger hunt members performed hysterical challenges– like forming a chorus line with strangers, or standing in a lagoon while being forced to hold their shoes over their heads! At the end trophies were awarded to the winning group and a fantastic time was had by all. There isn’t anything comparable to a “typical” week with Events & Adventures.

Events & Adventures San Francisco Offers Some Dating Tips

Dating today is different than it was for our parents’ generation. They lived in an era where just sitting down next to a stranger on the ferry could turn into a conversation that might one day lead to marriage and two kids. Our generation lives in a fast-paced world, so sitting down and having a conversation can be hard to manage. Here are a few dating tips for Events & Adventures members that will help make dating in the new millennium much easier.

In today’s world we tend to “play the game,” like arguing with ourselves for hours about when the right time to call back is. We’ve all been there—feeling like we’re at the mercy of someone else’s casual feelings. In a scenario like this, they probably weren’t very interested in making a connection with you at all. You’re left holding on, playing a mind game in hopes that if you just play your cards right they’ll see how ridiculously awesome you are and you’ll both end up happily ever after.  Do yourself a favor and stop playing games—unless that game is dodgeball or a board game with Events & Adventures!

We also make the mistake of looking for instant gratification. We’re all so busy we feel like we don’t have the time to put ourselves out there—after all, who knows how long it will be before you get a chance to see someone again, or how long it will take to figure out where to meet next time you do?  We worry that by the time we figure these things out the person will have lost interest or moved on.

Dating through social media only encourages this mentality; people on Tinder are used to swiping in one direction and finding someone they can hook up with in an instant.  When you date on the internet it’s not who you are, but how you look. Studies have even been done where fake dating profiles were created with objectively terrible personal biographies and pictures of attractive supermodels—and despite how disgusting these fake profiles sounded they still received dozens of messages a day.

Events & Adventures is the perfect way to break this habit; when you join us, all you have to do is show up. We take care of planning the events and finding great people; you focus on starting a conversation with a new friend while playing flag football or putting your brains together to solve the scavenger hunt.

Dating has become a sport. We date because we believe we’re supposed to date. Our schedules are so packed we fit in opportunities to date whenever we can, and often the caliber of the people we meet aren’t the quality of companionship we deserve. But Events & Adventures members have the chance to really connect with people, have rewarding experiences, and the opportunity to build a friendship and see where it leads. So as a reminder, here are some dating tips to help you really make a connection:

  • DO make Eye Contact (Put the phone away!)
  • DONT mistake kindness for attraction
  • DO be original, BE YOU, if they can’t like you for who you really are they are not worth it.
  • DONT think chivalry is dead (it’s not), remember small genuine gestures of kindness matter.

Events & Adventures allows you to be active, be yourself and to create new experiences while making friends. You never know when you might find that special connection.

Events & Adventures Santa Clara Gets its Members VIP Treatment

What’s it like to be treated like a VIP at the stadium that just weeks before the mostly highly sponsored and most highly viewed annual sporting event in the world? On March 12th, the members of Events & Adventures Santa Clara found out!

Forty of our members got a private tour of Levi’s Stadium and everyone at the venue went out of their way to make sure that this was an extraordinary day. Our group was given the honor of being the first people allowed in to tour the stadium since the Super Bowl.  We were given unbelievable access to the player’s locker rooms, VIP seating areas, the broadcasting booth, the field (which still had the Super Bowl grass) and much more.

After the tour our members were given access to the interactive Levi’s Stadium Museum. The entire museum was reserved just for our members and we were able to try on the 49er’s uniforms, perform routines with cyber 49ers cheerleaders, and run the 40-yard dash against cyber-versions of some of the team’s most famous players thanks to the magic of technology.

We ended the day with a meal at The Bourbon Pub, a restaurant located at the stadium. Everyone at the restaurant bent over backward to serve our huge group and make sure that everyone had a fantastic time!  Spending the day at Levi’s Stadium with our Events & Adventures friends is a memory that everyone will surely cherish for a very long time to come.

Celebrating Irish Culture with Events & Adventures San Francisco

Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green. Events & Adventures San Francisco is celebrating the entire week with fun filled events for everyone to participate in. You don’t need to be Irish to get together and enjoy some corned beef and cabbage, just make sure you wear green so you don’t get pinched.

This week started with The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown San Francisco, complete with leprechauns, bagpipes and kilts. The performers marched down Market Street to celebrate and showcased the Irish community, Irish culture and character in all its forms. Then the real fun began when the Irish Bank, a local pub in San Francisco shut down the alley way for a giant block party with live music and of course green beer. Events & Adventures members kept the party going into the weekend; we all dressed up in green and got to try beer from over 30 local breweries including Anchor Steam, 21st Amendment, Lost Coast and many more. Members got to try beer, learn to dance to Irish jigs and listening to reels, hornpipes and polkas all at the Fairfax Brew Fest.

St. Patrick’s Day is a day most of us look forward to, and in the spirit of the holiday here are some traditions that go along with it—some are more familiar than others.

  • Drinking – Since many Irish-Americans are Catholics, some may be required give up alcohol for Lent. However, they are allowed to break this fast during the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. This is one reason why the day is so heavily associated with drinking.
  • Dyeing water or beer green – Chicago dyes its river green for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, and many bars serve green beer. The White House also dyes the water in its fountain green. Lots of cities incorporate green in public displays in different ways. For example in Seattle, all the floats of the St. Patrick’s Day parade are painted green and observers are supposed to wear green or else risk being pinched.
  • Pea planting – In the Northeast, many celebrate by planting peas. The color of the plants and the fact that this time of year makes for ideal growing conditions make it a perfect tradition for St. Patrick’s Day.

To Events & Adventures members new and old, find that lucky shamrock and follow the leprechaun to the end of the rainbow where you might find your pot of gold, or even better meet some new lads and lasses to celebrate with!

Life Changing Experiences and Great Friends with Events & Adventures Phoenix

An everyday challenge could change your life.  Whether it’s a challenge that arises at work, with your family, or from within yourself, every one of these moments could be something that changes your life for the better or worse.  At Events & Adventures, we are in the business of changing people’s lives for the better!  Our club offers you the chance to have many unique experiences that you would usually never get the opportunity to have.  One of the most rewarding experiences we offer our members is a chance to meet their best friend.

Here are the 5 best ways we make that happen:

  1. Laughter

Laughter is the best medicine and sharing laughter is a great way to get to know someone.  Whether a moment like that comes from a free comedy show shared with someone you just met, making a fool of yourself to play the part you’re assigned at a murder mystery dinner, or sharing stories around a campfire, laughter is abundant and generously shared at Events & Adventures.

  1. Sharing an adventure

Nothing gets conversation and connections going more than sharing a life changing experience.  For many members of our club, skydiving, white water rafting, eating an exotic food, or taking a walk through an underground lava tube are not things they would ever do on their own.  Our club creates an atmosphere that makes it easier to take that chance and go on that adventure—because you’ll have a great group of people beside you, going on that adventure with you.

  1. Creating something together

Getting the creative juices flowing brings out less seen sides of people.  It opens your mind to new ideas and livens up how you are perceived by others. Events & Adventures likes to create, and how we do it varies. Sometimes it could be in the form of a cooking class and learning to make a decadent soufflé, or working together to complete a relay challenge to create a goal and reach it as a group.  Creating and completing a task can be a great way to find that instant connection in a friend or partner.

  1. Giving Back

Giving back to the community is something Events & Adventures takes very seriously.  We love to partner up with local charities and help out the people around us.  Giving back in the form of community outreach can give you a sense of compassion that no other act can give.  Sharing this feeling with others can make it easier to open up and gives you the opportunity to be comfortably vulnerable with others, something that would otherwise not be available in the beginning of friendships.

  1. Traveling Abroad

International travel can be exciting, exhausting, scary, thrilling, tiring, breathtaking, and moving—all at once.  Emotions can run wild and you may experience feelings you never have before.  Events & Adventures gives you the opportunity to go to those exotic places you’ve always wanted to go, without the headache of planning or the nerves of facing an unknown culture alone.  When you’re sharing the experience of riding an elephant, swatting off giant mosquitoes, or seeing one of the seven wonders with your very own eyes, it’s hard not to connect with someone.  Something so life changing can only be shared with those you are with at that very moment.  Joining Events & Adventures is your ticket to meeting your new best friend. And who knows, that best friend could one day become your partner for life.

Bootcamp with Events & Adventures Minneapolis

Events & Adventures Minneapolis Can Make Your Next Hump Day Worthwhile

One thing Events & Adventures members love to do is get out and be active.  So if you’ve been thinking about getting more active—NOW is the time to take action and uncover the best version of you by joining Events & Adventures.

Events & Adventures teamed up with Sweat with Jess for an amazing hump day boot camp!  What better way to celebrate hump day than to sweat together and have a drink afterwards?  Fourteen brave Events & Adventures club members showed up for the boot camp session and we were all excited to get out there and get our summer bodies off to a great start!

We asked Jess why she was so passionate about helping her clients and this is what she had to say:

“Why do I do what I do? Because I love helping people see what they are capable of. I LOVE pushing people to their maximum. I love providing a great workout to help my clients achieve success and a sense of pride!”

Jess’s help alongside the great atmosphere created by our club members turned what might usually be an exhausting hump day into a chance to meet new people and better our lifestyles.

Our hump day boot camp consisted of box jumps, plank salutes, wall balls, sit-ups, overhead rev lunges, burpees and goblet squats! It was no easy task, but when you have a trainer as spunky as Jess and company as great as our members it makes the time fly and burn worth it! The great thing about working with Sweat with Jess is that she adapted the workout for all skill and ability levels. So whether they were an avid gym goer or this was their first time at a boot camp class, everyone was able to succeed!  Afterwards, once everyone was drained so we headed next door to one of our favorite breweries, Urban Growler for a drink and a mouthwatering burger!

Bowling, Fun and Friends with Events & Adventures Dallas

Events & Adventures Dallas spent a night out at the bowling alley, and while you might think that bowling wouldn’t be interesting enough to be a highlight of the weekend, it was a fantastic evening!  We had several new members come out for their very first event and it was a perfect place for them to socialize and be brought into the group.  We had close to 40 people attending and everyone was fun, pleasant, and spent time in between the game getting to know new members. The atmosphere was very inviting and no one felt left out.

Bowling is just one of those things that never gets old.  Even the few of us that weren’t too skilled at bowling were having a great time, and we were even able to sneak in a few strikes here and there.  Everyone was laughing, high fiving, and cheering on our fellow members making it a great atmosphere.  We were out bowling for about two hours, and some of our members say that the cheap drinks at the alley’s bar helped them get higher scores—but don’t hold them to that!

After the game a bunch of us decided we weren’t ready to call it a night, so we went to celebrate our wins (or drown our losses) with a few cold ones.  About 20 of us headed over to a local bar, and several of them were new members who already felt comfortable enough to hang out with the rest of us.  Everyone had a great time, and this is just one of the many great events Events & Adventures Dallas sets up for us every month. We’ll be doing it again soon!

Events & Adventures Has Their Own Amazing Race in Santa Clara

Last week 44 members of Events & Adventures Santa Clara participated in the club’s Amazing Race event.  Members drew colored armbands from a hat, and the colors that were drawn determined the teams. The groups then raced from Shoreline Lake to Rengstorff Park in Mountain View. We made a four-mile trek using three different modes of transportation, over land and water, and going outside our comfort zones while we worked as a team to win prizes and an epic BBQ.

With seven or eight people on each team, and other members stationed throughout Mountain View California, the race began! Five teams played “Peddle Boat Tag”. Two members at a time churned across the lake, and once on the other side, one member of the team had to exit and tag the bushes on the shore. The duo peddled back to the dock, gave another set of teammates their life jackets and joined their group in cheering on the members who were still racing.

Once all members of a team had finished the peddle boat leg, they were directed to a bicycle waiting by the dock. At that point, the entire team ran to the “Bicycle Basketball” station. There, one-by-one each member had to try and throw a basketball into their team’s basket while riding their bicycle around the court.  Once this task was completed by all the members of a team, the group was given a clue that they had to decipher. It led them to a bridge and there, a club member stationed there handed the team another clue. Once solved, this clue told the teams to follow the edge of a golf course to the park’s kite flying area.

When contestants arrived at the kite flying area, they were met by another member who gave each team a kite-making kit. Each team was required to build the kite as quickly as possible. Once the kite flew in the air for two minutes, the member who was supervising gave the team another envelope with their next clue, as well as a list of tasks that they could accomplish along the way for time deduction bonuses. Teams had to take a group selfie outside the gates of the park, take pictures with any Google self-driving cars that they saw, and attempt to form the word “Google” in front of one of the Google signs using only their bodies—all as we raced to our Events & Adventures chapter’s favorite bar and volleyball venue. Once there, another member made sure that each team hit the volleyball over the net ten times without it hitting the sand before they could be given the next clue.

The next clue contained a multitude of riddles that directed the teams through several streets until they came to another park. There, a member was waiting with balloon-covered boards. The teams were then given a blindfold and darts, and while each team member attempted to hit the balloons, their teammates would shout directions to help them aim.  Once a team was ready to move on, they were given the final set of clues which would take the teams to the game’s finish line—Rengstorff Park.

Each member of the team that finished the race the fastest won an Events & Adventures Amazing Race Mountain View water bottle filled with tiny Jelly Belly Champagne Bottles and Pop Rocks. The best prize, however, was all the laughter that ensued at the barbecue that followed the race, as everyone relived the excitement of the day.
