Arizona Taco Festival!

Taking advantage of any outside events this time of year in Arizona is a MUST! With cool, sunny and bright days where the evenings are gradually getting colder and colder by the day, we’re heading to more local events that are outside!
An awesome event that we recently attended was the Arizona Taco Festival. With a ton of things to do, watch, and taste – this event was a perfect way to meet and mingle with E & A members, while enjoying the outdoors! With a fun venue that offered a lot in the way of experiencing new things, this has quickly become an annual event for Events & Adventures!
Along with the variety of live music, there were cooking demos on how to make a southwest favorite: tacos!  Also the wrestling classic luche libre was happening throughout the day, arm wrestling for tacos, different eating contests, and to top it all off – beautiful weather to be enjoyed by us! The AZ Taco Festival is now a favorite E & A event!

Haunted House Party Bus Tour Minneapolis

Tis the season of Halloween and E&A celebrates in style!  For our thrill-seekers, we have a Haunted Houses Party Bus Tour… first of all, you have the party bus… seats lining the bus so everyone is facing one another, not one, but TWO light up dance poles in the center aisle, and a bathroom with wrap around mirrors (I don’t know the point of that, but it goes with the experience, I guess!)… so we start off with some dance music and pretty soon you see people cheers-ing and laughing and then, of course, dancing! Getting from the front of the bus to the back may be a challenge, but it didn’t stop most of us from mingling throughout the bus until we arrived at our first haunted house!  TerrorFest… and that it was… well done by these folks, even though I may have been the one who was the most reluctant to go in!  I’m glad I did… it was a blast!  And after the screams and the laughter, we were exiting and getting back on the bus, and onto the next haunted house experience.  This time to the “Halloween Capital of the World”:  Anoka, MN!  Held at the fairgrounds, we were able to donate some canned goods for the local food shelf for a discounted entry fee!  What a great idea!  So as we weaved through the gates, the laughter continued in anticipation of what was to come.  I was in the last group to enter… and I want to thank my members who told the actors my name… “Megan…. Meeeeegaaann….” was being screamed and shouted as we walked through… and after all of the scares and screams, the fog and cobwebs, and not to forget the chainsaws and electric chairs… we were once again free into the night and boarding back on the bus to laugh, drink, and dance again… now this is a way to have a party AND to enjoy the Halloween season!

Pedal Pub Fun in Dallas!

DFW has finally got a Pedal Pub! It’s downtown Fort Worth in  Sundance Square. And it isn’t nearly as exhausting as I thought it would be.  Thank goodness because I hate the gym. I looked at it and thought we’re going to pedal this thing for how long?!? Two hours later I was so happy I went. We stopped every few blocks for refreshment, so no one got really winded. One stop the feature was French fries and we passed them around while pedaling to our next stop. It was totally fun! The driver rang the bell at every green light to get us going and we yelled “Pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal, PEDAL” and laaauughed. The people we passed took our picture and cheered us on. We had the best time. You gotta try it.  This weekend is our massive Halloween party and I can’t wait!

Whitewater Kayaking Vancouver

This weekend a small, brave group of souls took part in an ultimate Canadian Fall Adventure!!  We had a blast on the Chilliwack River for over 4.5 hours of paddling white water in inflatable kayaks..What a thrill.  Fly fishers adorned the sides of the “Wack” as the annual salmon spawn was happening at the same time.  Fish jumping and campers alongside the roaring river, we paddled our hearts out over the rapids, trying to stay in our boats and smiling all of the way.  After dinner at the resort most of stayed by the campfire until we retired for the night to our tents, sleeping like bricks, after such an amazing workout and day in Beautiful BC wilderness.

Oktoberfest, Bowling and Skydiving!

What a fun weekend, sure every weekend we have lots of fun things but some weekends the stars just seem to align. We started off the weekend with bowling.  I know on paper bowling may sound just ok, but it gets really fun when you have a big bunch of friends altogether and everyone is eating pizza and having a goodtime. We all cheered when one of us would get a strike and joked when we got gutter balls (which happened more than we all wanted).   It was also a Members Meeting and it was great to hear the feedback from everyone about what folks might want to do for the upcoming snow season as well as other activities or performances everyone is excited about … Nutcracker, Spamalot, overnight events and others.

Saturday we met at the club house in Bellevue bright and early for coffee and donuts (some of us eating more donuts than I should have) and hopping on the party bus to The Leavenworth Oktoberfest.  Yes that is me in lederhosen!  And yes that is a yodeling pickle in my pocket.  (I’m not sure why … It just seemed like the thing to have).  It’s so true there is no better Oktoberfest this side of Germany than the Leavenworth Oktoberfest. We left Bellevue around 10AM and didn’t get back till about 10PM

Can you believe that a few members that went on the party bus got up the next morning at made it to the Federal Way park-n-ride by 8:30AM to go SKYDIVING!   We had around 10 members carpool down to Toledo WA. And jump out of a plane.    So in hindsight I think it is true that Bowling + Oktoberfest Party Bus & Skydiving will make a great weekend.

Getting Outside and Playing Games!

With the amazing weather in Arizona this time of year, we love getting outside and playing any kind of sport! Although it gets darker, earlier these days that doesn’t stop us! We have quite the collection of Glow in the Dark sporting equipment!  With a glow in the dark football, soccer and Frisbee, we’ve spent many-a-night running around, kicking goals and throwing touchdowns!

Active sporting events are some of the best events to attend here in Phoenix! With a ‘just for fun’ attitude by almost all of our members, you’ll be sure to have a good time regardless of ability!  You’ll most likely get in some good exercise for the evening, show off your athletic talent, meet and mingle with other members and have an all around great time! With a couple weekly active events, come on out and try your hand at volleyball, soccer, football, kickball, Frisbee and more!

All About Fencing…..Chicago

Foil, sabre, epee…do you know what these things are? I do!  I never would have thought I would be doing something that dates back to the 16th century. I am referring to our fencing lesson. It was awesome! Our instructor was great at allowing us lots of hands-on exposure. She also educated us on the evolution of fencing up until its modern day. I had no clue that national fencing tournaments take place right here in Chicago. It’s a whole other hidden world! The experience was a first for nearly all of us E&A members. I love doing new things together! Someone was even able to check off an item on their bucket list! We let our guard down and tried something new. Actually, we kept our guard up! Haha…ON GUARD!

Being “Stealthy” playing Laser Tag!

Laser Tag is one of my favorite events. Running around in the dark arena, trying to be “stealthy”. It can be so much fun! It’s funny because every time I play, I think I am a ninja… and then I see my score…. And I’m not as good as I thought I was. E&A went to a new laser tag location last week & it was a blast. Angela & I teamed up to cover each other’s backs while we tried to protect our home base. I feel I may have let her down though, I got caught up in a laser war with Nadia & totally forgot to protect Angela! We lost that game but got another chance!

The highlight of the evening for me was the laser maze! This was really where I felt like James Bond. It’s a room full of lasers that you have to navigate without touching any of them. I was nervous because I got so into mood! I seriously felt that if I touched the laser it would be the end of me! Ritu busted out her yoga skills and rocked it! She put the level on extreme & finished quickly and only touched 1 laser. Then new member Berret (it was his first event) came & bunny hopped over the most difficult part! He did it without touching any laser & getting through it the fastest! What a rockstar! It was one seriously good night!

Meeting New People in Minneapolis!

The best part about Events & Adventures is the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends…. not in a forced one-on-one kind of way, but a casual, group setting.  For us in Minneapolis, it was just last Friday at our New Member Ice Breaker and Cosmic Bowling event!  I think the scariest part for new members, is going to that first event… not sure who you will meet, wondering if you are wearing the right outfit, making sure you’re not late, looking for others who might be in your same boat… but guess what??  There ARE people in your same boat, wondering that same things that you are!  You may be a little tense when you first walk in, but after some chatting with the others, you realize that you have hobbies in common, or that you grew up in the same city, or that you live in the same city now… and your nerves ease a little bit.  Then we move into the bowling alley where current members are waiting to meet you… you may tense up again, but as soon as the lanes are chosen and the bowling gets rolling, it’s a no-brainer!  This was one of the best decisions you could have made!  So cheers to making new friends and to many more to come… this is just the beginning!

Getting Lost turned out Great!

I didn’t realize that getting lost was the best thing that could have happened.  The beautiful hike in Sunol was carefully planned and the route clear to me.  I was ready to give our members a fun new workout; a steeper and more challenging hike than the last few, but not impossible either.  Then, about 15 minutes of the hike walking the bridge over the rolling river and enjoying the shade, I had to make a choice.  The trail markers were no help at all and the wide path here looked like a tractor could ride on it.  I went left and soon I realize that my intermediate, challenging hike was turning into an easy stroll.  I let it go and made a quick plan, head to the river and then back around the hill.  Not only did we discover some of the most peaceful and beautiful places in the park, but, after carefully avoiding the cows grazing and protecting their calves, we made a fast march up the mountain to get a better view.  Once back, I knew I made the “right” choice when everyone smiled and said that the hike was the perfect exercise; challenging, but not impossible.  I think I’ll make the wrong turn more often.
