Minneapolis Takes to the Wild With a Survival Class

Last Sunday, 16 brave Minneapolis members partook in a six hour Wilderness Survival Class conducted by Seekers Wild. Everyone showed up bright and early to Battle Creek Park in St. Paul and prepared to face the unknown. Before we started the survival class our instructor, Derek, broke everyone up into two teams for several activities.  The first activity we tried our hand at was starting fires using bow drills. It was a difficult task but most of us were able to produce smoke and an ember. A few even successfully started fires like some genuine pioneers.

The next task was to learn how to collect water from the wilderness. Our instructor took two jugs of water and poured them all over the grass to mimic rain. He handed each member a thin towel and had them race to see who could collect the most water in three minutes by soaking up what he had dumped out. We joked that the teams could receive 10 extra points if they drank the water they collected and surprisingly each team had one extreme member who actually did when dared!

After breaking for lunch we learned about wild plants and how to identify which are edible. After about 30 minutes we found over 17 types of edible plants. Some of them tasted like garlic, green beans and coconut. We hiked to the top of the bluffs and learned how to build a shelter. Despite only having 20 minutes to gather supplies and build the shelters, they came out pretty great! The last thing we did for the day was walk down to the basin of the park. We all grabbed foam sticks or bows with foam arrows and played a wild game where we had to tag each person hidden in the field to get more points for our teams. It was hilarious and everyone had fun pretending they were a part of the Hunger Games.

Everyone had a great time working, building and learning with one another. It was a fantastic way to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon. This is what you have to look forward to when you’re a member of Events & Adventures!

Events & Adventures Minneapolis

The Minneapolis Club has Great Activities for the Summer

There is nothing Minnesotans love more than when the weather finally starts to warm up and they can enjoy hanging out on a patio, enjoying ice cold beverages and playing yard games. That’s why this summer Events & Adventures Minneapolis is having a Sunday Summer Patio Tour. We’re hitting up all the best places around the Twin Cities that fit the patio lounging theme.

We are kicking off our Summer Patio Tour at Forepaugh’s in May. Forepaugh’s Restaurant is a gorgeous, state-of-the-art venue located in a historic, Victorian mansion. The rooftop terrace overlooks Irvine Park and the quaint porch and patio offer views of the Ramsey House.

We will get to try a small tasting menu created just for Events & Adventures members, including great dishes like beef satay, lemon candy, shrimp caprese bites, and Malaysian chicken samosas. We will also have our own personal whiskey connoisseur who will be mixing personalized drinks for our guests and educating those who want to learn about whiskey. He’ll also be holding parlor games like trivia where our members can win great prizes.

Forepaugh’s is also known for being haunted so they will be hosting ghost tours through the mansion for the brave at heart. The paranormal activity in Forepaugh’s Restaurant seems to revolve around the original owner of the mansion, Joseph Lybrandt Forepaugh and his former maid and lover named Molly. Their apparitions have been seen on countless occasions within Forepaugh’s Restaurant.

Without a doubt there is something for everyone to enjoy at Forepaugh’s.  See you on the patio!

We’ll also learn some aid climbing techniques, so if our members acquire a taste for rock climbing they’ll have the knowledge to be able to safely go on their next adventure. After that, our next stop is the Kettle River for white water rafting right in our own backyard! The rapids on the Hell’s Gate section of the Kettle River are action-packed with spectacular views. The three hour trip races through rapids that vary from intermediate to advanced in difficulty.

We also have our Memorial Day camping trip coming up; it’s one of the biggest events of the whole year! We’re meeting up with the Chicago club in the Wisconsin Dells for a weekend full of adventures and good times. Later in the summer we’re hitting Ft. Snelling Base Camp, where we can all work together and inspire each other to face our fears head on conquer the 30 foot rope course. And for those who are not as brave but still want to join us, there’s a 15 foot indoor course that is much less intimidating. These are only a few of the awesome events we’ll be hosting in the next few months. We’ll also be making the most of the spring and summer with bonfires, drive-ins, sand volleyball, wine tasting, pickleball, and a lot of other exciting things! Bootcamp with Events & Adventures Minneapolis

Events & Adventures Minneapolis Can Make Your Next Hump Day Worthwhile

One thing Events & Adventures members love to do is get out and be active.  So if you’ve been thinking about getting more active—NOW is the time to take action and uncover the best version of you by joining Events & Adventures.

Events & Adventures teamed up with Sweat with Jess for an amazing hump day boot camp!  What better way to celebrate hump day than to sweat together and have a drink afterwards?  Fourteen brave Events & Adventures club members showed up for the boot camp session and we were all excited to get out there and get our summer bodies off to a great start!

We asked Jess why she was so passionate about helping her clients and this is what she had to say:

“Why do I do what I do? Because I love helping people see what they are capable of. I LOVE pushing people to their maximum. I love providing a great workout to help my clients achieve success and a sense of pride!”

Jess’s help alongside the great atmosphere created by our club members turned what might usually be an exhausting hump day into a chance to meet new people and better our lifestyles.

Our hump day boot camp consisted of box jumps, plank salutes, wall balls, sit-ups, overhead rev lunges, burpees and goblet squats! It was no easy task, but when you have a trainer as spunky as Jess and company as great as our members it makes the time fly and burn worth it! The great thing about working with Sweat with Jess is that she adapted the workout for all skill and ability levels. So whether they were an avid gym goer or this was their first time at a boot camp class, everyone was able to succeed!  Afterwards, once everyone was drained so we headed next door to one of our favorite breweries, Urban Growler for a drink and a mouthwatering burger!

Events & Adventures Minneapolis Goes Snorkeling

Last week 12 brave Events & Adventures members went snorkeling with all types of sea creatures at SEA LIFE located in the Mall of America. It was an hour-long surface snorkeling adventure, and our members were able to get up close and personal with over 75 types of tropical fish including puffer fish and shark. We were even able to bring our waterproof cameras underwater with us to take pictures with the fish and get the ultimate selfie. Those of us who were not quite brave enough to get in the water had a great time walking through the aquarium tunnel, where we got to watch the fish and our fellow members while they were snorkeling.

Once the snorkeling session was complete we had the privilege of getting a 45 minute guided behind-the-scenes tour. The tour took us up to the deck above the aquarium tunnel system where we were able to see animals that were currently off-exhibit. We were then able to explore the laboratory and learn how they maintain the 1.3 million gallon tanks that simulate the ocean and make up the aquarium. Finally, the tour guide took us into the food prep kitchen where we got to see how and what they feed the thousands of exotic creatures in their care. From sharks to sea turtles, and jellyfish to seahorses, SEA LIFE Aquarium showcases thousands of sea creatures underneath Mall of America. By allowing visitors to come face to face with animals rarely seen in Minnesota, SEA LIFE gave us a new level of excitement and understanding of the world’s oceans.

After the behind the scenes tour we were able to explore the rest of the aquarium.  SEA LIFE Minnesota is the only aquarium in the Midwest with an interactive stingray touch pool, where you can get up close and personal with real live stingrays, pet them and handfeed them shrimp. It was a fun and entertaining way for all of us to break out of our comfort zones.

All in all it was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and a great opportunity to mingle with fellow Events & Adventures members. Many of us have always wanted to go snorkeling with tropical fish, and finally got a chance to cross that off our bucket lists. We ended the day grabbing food to refuel and chatting about the amazing experiences we all shared that day.

Minneapolis Singles Tackling the High Ropes Course

Tackling the Ropes Course with Events & Adventures Minneapolis

Testing our wits is something we get to do almost every day, whether it’s being a new member of Events and Adventures and going to our first event or tackling a high ropes course, which is what we did this past weekend!  Climbing ropes, walking across a single rope as we balance and focus on the platform ahead, rope ladders and swings HIGH above the ground… and as we ziplined off our last platform, we were relieved that we had finished and proud of what we accomplished!  Plus, we could finally “look down” without freaking out a bit!  Always an adventure with this group of singles!

Hiking To Beautiful Place With Events and Adventures Minneapolis!

Hiking

I love Saturday mornings when spending them with friends, enjoying the summer weather and what we have left of it!  We hiked in Taylor Falls Park today… well, hiked AND climbed I should say.  Most of the trails bring us to a boulder or two to climb up on and over to keep going on with our journey.  We even discovered things we haven’t seen before on the trails… devil’s cave, natural potholes carved into the rocks, and so much more.  We tried new trails, and even “off-roaded” a little… we crossed the border and went over to the Wisconsin side of the river and took in the views and trails from that side… most people we happy to cross back over to the Minnesota side… especially after seeing some Packer fans hiking as well.  So our “Welcome to Minnesota” sign pictures, were truly a relief (to some… I’m a Packer fan… SHHH don’t tell!)  After we crossed back over, we headed to this old-fashioned ice cream shop and rewarded ourselves for our accomplishments that morning!  We conquered our fears and met some new people… as we do every day as a part of E&A!

We Tried The New Sport of Foot Golf In Minneapolis!

Minneapolis singles playing Foot Golf

Events and Adventures Minneapolis had our first outing of Foot Golf this past weekend, the new sport that is “sweeping the nation”!  As we were waiting in the club house waiting for everyone to arrive, we were debating on if it’s still called a “tee time” or if it should be a “kick off” or “punt time”… as we split into teams and sent the first one off, we were figuring out our strategies and anxious to see what was in store for us.  The first group “kicked off” and we watched as they made their way closer to the 21 inch cup… We heard some cheers as a surprising kick went in along with some “Ahhhhh’s” when the ball didn’t go in… then it was our turn to try!  We each placed our ball on the tee box as it was out turn and made a running kick, much like the “Happy Gillmore” in the movie, just without a club!  And as we made our way through the course and laughed and cheered each other on, we realized at the end of the round, that it doesn’t matter what we do because we get to do it with friends!  AND something we normally wouldn’t have tried!  We can’t wait until our next round of Foot Golf!  FORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tackling the Rapids on the St Louis River!

Events and Adventures White Water Rafting

We had a chance to tackle the rapids on the St Louis River this past weekend!  We carpooled up north on 35W, just 15 miles shy of Duluth, and all met at our launch location in Cloquet.  We each had our own little adventures on the way up in anticipation of the big ones we would have in just a couple hours… when it was time to go, we all got our life jackets and a paddle and went to our assigned rafts… on the grass… hmmm what??  Ok, I guess they had to explain a few things before we went out on the water… probably a good thing!  Ha!  Then we finally got to set our rafts in the water and paddle out… practicing our together-ness with each stroke and getting the teamwork thing down.  When we finally got to the rapids, it was a shock of how warm the water actually was compared to the 68 degree air!  Some of us got soaked… ok, ALL of us got soaked with the waves spilling into and over our rafts, filling our rafts up to our seats with water… it’s like we were sitting in a pool!  But as soon as we paddled through that last rapid, it was all smiles and laughter and an accomplishment of no one actually falling OUT of their raft!  Anyone up for singing some “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” in a round?  Good times as always with Events and Adventures!
