Create Relationships with Fellow Houston Sports Fans

Opening Day Baseball isn’t just any old event to sports fans—it’s a display of hope, optimism and enthusiasm.  Every fan from every major league team has high hopes for their season and their players.  After years of rebuilding we didn’t expect too much from our rag tag group of young players and aging veterans last season.  Experts from all across baseball decided that the Astros would be great—just not for another two years. Baseball pundits predicted a deep playoff run for 2017, but expected little from the 2015 season.

From April to October this group came together and did what no one expected—they committed themselves to a goal and they achieved it.  They made the playoffs for the first time since a very different version of the same team lost the World Series in 2005.  For the first time in ten years they were playing, and winning.  Houston beat the New York Yankees in the Wild Card game only to fall to the future World Champion, the Kansas City Royals, 3-2. It was a great time to experience alongside fellow sports fans from Events & Adventures Houston.

So on April 11th, when we take our seats for the 7:10pm first pitch, we will celebrate hope, optimism and enthusiasm as a group of new friends looking to come together and continue to live the life we love.  We don’t know what the season will hold, but for this one game we will enjoy more than just an evening of great baseball at Minute Maid Park.  We’ll enjoy the experience of everything Opening Day stands for, alongside fellow sports fans, and the new friends we’ve met through Events & Adventures.

A Poker Night in Dallas for All Types of Players

Events & Adventures Dallas had a blast at Poker Night! Shortly after arriving, we hung out for a bit and had a quick bite to eat before the game finally started. The event was held at Trinity Hall, and the venue had bunch of great beer on tap, as well as authentic Irish and British food like fish and chips and Sheppard’s pie. Lots of members showed up, and between all of us we had to set up a couple of tables. We had a great mix of men and women, and a lot of friendly and fun people showed up to play.

We learned very quickly who really knew how to play and who was still learning their way around the poker table. We weren’t too hard on the newbies; in fact, some of us took some time to help struggling players figure out the game. It was a great event because we had the opportunity to sit down and learn more about other members in an atmosphere that made conversation come easy. Our group had a great time talking about everything from food and drinks, to how their week went. Many of us took the opportunity to try new types of beer with the encouragement of other members who were more familiar with the unique kinds of drinks offered at the bar.

Only two women from our group of club members advanced to the championship round, but many others stuck around to play on the secondary tables just for fun, or hung out and watched others play. One of our ladies even came in third at the championship table and won a gift card!

One of the best things about Events and Adventures is that we all get the chance to experience new things in a very positive and friendly environment. In fact, most of us had no idea that Trinity Hall even had poker on Mondays! A couple of us liked it so much we’re going back again together, just as a group of new friends. We’d have never known anything about this great event if it weren’t for Events & Adventures Dallas.

Find Adventure and Friendship with Events & Adventures

Camping is the cure for everything.

Go camping, get outdoors, set plans and make them happen. Spending your free time sleeping outside may not sound amazing on paper, but the fresh air and tranquility of our Texas State Parks is what you’ve been missing (and it’s even better in the company of new friends). Events & Adventures Houston has gone on 25 camping trips and no one has ever regret coming along. We’ve dealt with storms, unexpected cold, droughts, and floods. But the unexpected challenges are just a way for us to come together and share a real experience; so you aren’t just meeting new people, but also building relationships.

Camping with other adults is something most people don’t get to experience. The uniqueness of the experience is why we make it a point to go camping or do an overnight trip once a month for our members. Relaxing around a campfire brings out the best in us. It’s a place where we can take a deep breathe, relax and not worry about the city stress that keeps us down. It’s a place where meeting new people turns into more than just getting along with someone for the moment, but rather forming lasting relationships and really getting to know one another. When you’re camping—it’s just you, nature, and a bunch of great people, so you don’t have that stress of trying to be someone you’re not or looking a certain way. You just let yourself sink into the trees and the forest and experience freedom.

Huntsville State Park is one of our favorite spots to go camping. We go every February and this year the weather was perfect. We hiked the seven mile trail all the way around the lake. There were a lot of tired faces when we returned but the feeling of accomplishment outweighed our exhaustion. We paddle-boarded, canoed, rode horses, had campfires, celebrated birthdays, played games and took time to smell the roses.

Whatever you do this year we hope you visit as many of our wonderful State Parks as you can.  Do things that get you out of the house, and live a life you love.

Have a Busy and Exciting Weekend without any Planning

For so many of us weekends come and go way too quickly.  Before you even have time to plan what you’ll be doing Friday night, the alarm clock is going off and signaling the start of Monday morning. But that hasn’t been a problem for our club members since they joined Events & Adventures.

This last weekend we had tons of plans scheduled, with no thought needed on the members’ side—all we had to do was show up and have a good time. Our Friday night was a late one with bingo after dark. The casino where we spent the night created a bingo-meets-night-club atmosphere for entertainment.  It sounds crazy but we were actually playing bingo while also hitting the dancefloorCould you keep up with the numbers while a dance party grooves all around you?

On Saturday morning we spent a beautiful day in the desert.  Clear skies, 70 degree weather and lots of Events & Adventures friends learning to shoot clay pigeons with the shotguns.  One of our members was such a good shot; he was able to hit four clay pigeons with one load, and two shots—entertaining and impressive! Then the night was filled with custom built pizza, a personal pizza truck, craft beer, and Cards Against Humanity.

Sunday we slowed it down and took to the trails and rode horses into the sunset. This quiet, peaceful ride through the desert was the perfect way to wrap up a fun, eventful and adventure-filled weekend.
There’s so much to do with Events & Adventures there’s no need to plan your weekend.  Spend your week concentrating on what you need to get done; and then when the weekend comes around your R&R is all ready for you.  Whether you’re looking for something adventurous to do on your weekends, or an opportunity to meet and have fun with new friends, Events & Adventures has you covered.  Next weekend will be filled with even more new adventures, so check us out. We’ll be doing things like city scavenger hunts, bumping each other around at bubble soccer, or jumping out of planes on our quarterly skydiving adventure!  And all in one weekend!

Spend Your Whole Week Meeting New Friends

This week we broke away from the ordinary and spent our free time with an amazing group of new friends. While Valentine’s Day is usually miserable for singles, Events & Adventures members spent the day laughing at Rooster T. Feather’s, a local comedy club, because laughter is infinitely sexier than spending Valentine’s Day alone. After that we left our stress (and a lot of our common sense) on the curb as we watched Zoolander 2 from the comfort of recliners at a luxury movie theatre—the day was spent in the company of good people with lots of great conversation.

But that was just the beginning of our week; our adventures included a rousing evening of sand volleyball with a huge crowd of members, and volunteering at Second Harvest Food bank. We also went bowling, and enjoyed meeting new people while having some great drinks. We ended our week on Saturday with a challenging hike through the Saratoga Mountains and ending it by filing into a party bus for some bar hopping. But this isn’t anything out of the ordinary here at Events & Adventures, just another busy week filled with interesting places and meeting great people.

Events & Adventures Makes Meeting New People Easy

One of the things that makes Events & Adventures so unique is that no matter where the event is or what you’re doing, you’ll always find a friendly face to greet you there. Gone are those awkward outings where you’re left to fend for yourself in a sea of new faces, and in their place is an easy way to make meeting new people fun. The secret to this is our event hosts, who are members themselves, and know a thing or two about getting the most out of your membership. Members can count on our hosts to lead the event and introduce them to many other members of the group.

While all of our hosts are expertly trained in the art of helping club members shake their shyness and make the most of their Events & Adventures experience, we’d like to highlight two of our star hosts who go the extra mile to ensure that our members are having the best time possible at each event.

Whether he’s teaching you moves on the dance floor or greeting you at one of our wine tastings, Xavier is the person you go to when you want to know what’s going on around the city. A Chicago born native, Xavier joined the Events & Adventures Chicago club over two years ago and became an event host shortly after. His knowledge of the city and enthusiasm for Events & Adventures make him the perfect point of contact for any member new to the city or just looking to learn more about the club and our members.

There’s also Janelly, one of the newest additions to the Events & Adventures hosting team.  Janelly has been a member for almost a year and has a passion for people, and life in general.  You can find her hosting everything from days out at the museum, to group dinners, to our yacht parties on the lake.  Janelly makes it very easy for members to integrate into the group, and in good fun and in a way that breaks the ice for those members who are a bit more shy or nervous about their first event. More often than not she’ll greet you with a smile, and then take a selfie with you. Janelly has recently finished her Master’s Degree in Public Administration and we couldn’t be prouder of her achievement.

E&A members attack the ropes course!

Meet New People While Embarking on New Adventures

It’s not summer yet, but the weather is starting to make it feel like it’s just around the corner. Last Saturday Events & Adventures members from the Bay Area enjoyed the amazing February weather as we challenged ourselves to work together on an outdoor ropes course at Fort Miley in San Francisco.

The combination of low and high rope courses enable participants to grow as both a team and individuals by exploring skills like leadership, communication, problem-solving, and coaching. The low ropes course focuses on collaboration; the challenges call upon every member of the team to participate, while the high-rope course emphasizes risk-taking, trust, and coaching. The challenges enable participants to expand their comfort zones, sometimes dramatically and recognize their fears while conquering them. The adventures we undertook helped us bond on a level that probably couldn’t achieve otherwise!

Everyone worked together with members they just met, or ones they’ve been getting to know. We helped each other leap over walls, shimmy across a line between two trees, and make our way from one plank to another while we were suspended in the air. It was a great day, but in a way, the day in the life of an Events & Adventures member!

Cassie & Her Husband

Find More Than a First Date, Find a Lifelong Connection

We’re so happy to share the real life success story of Events & Adventures member Cassie. Here it is in her own words.

“Knowing that I was dead set against dating online, a friend of mine recommended that I try Events & Adventures. After just a few events, I met friends that I knew I’d have for life. Everyone in the group was so unique and all had such kind spirits, so I knew I was in the right place to meet a loving man. From March to August I went to events sporadically and then there he was! I was so intrigued when I met and spoke with him, but at the time I was convinced that liked a friend and fellow club member of ours, so I played match maker and invited him to church for her. He came multiple weeks in a row, but never made a move on my friend or myself.

Finally, after a month or so he admitted he liked me and we went on our first date. We were sure right off the bat that we were made for each other, and if it weren’t for Events & Adventures we may have never met! I highly recommend joining E&A to not only gain a huge amount of friends, but to potentially meet the love of your life as I have. We were married six months later and the rest is history! I also want to say thank you to the hosts at each event for making it comfortable for the newbies! Without you some people may never introduce themselves to a single soul. Good luck to all who join!” ~ Cassie M.

We’re days away from Special Olympics Minnesota’s biggest event and fundraiser, and we want to be sure you know about all the great things going on. There’s something for everyone, so join your fellow E&A members for this weekend full of festivities.

On March 5th, we’re heading out to Lake Calhoon where we’re playing a snow volleyball tournament with over 30 co-ed teams on snow-covered courts, so be sure to wear your warmest winter gear—and your game face! There are still spots available to join our team so sign up now before they are all gone!

After the snow volleyball tournament, we will be doing the Polar Plunge with Team Events & Adventures, featuring Heather the Events Coordinator and Jesse the Sales Manager! We have pledged to raise over $500 for the Special Olympics, so please be sure to head over to our Events & Adventures Polar Plunge page to donate to this awesome foundation!

Now if plunging into freezing cold water is not for you, we still want you to come join in the fun and cheer on our snow volleyball team and the brave souls jumping into the lake. The Minneapolis Plunge is a fun-filled day of activities with something for everyone! Throughout the day there will be live entertainment at the Plunge stage, fire pits with free s’mores, blow-up igloos with free coffee, a DJ, food trucks, warming tents and more! We can’t wait to get out there and have lots of fun while raising money for a great cause. Don’t miss out on this event! See you at Thomas Beach!

Weekend Getaways with the Phoenix Club

pinetop cabin
Most of us really don’t take time off to enjoy the wonders of natures or the companionship of others on a weekend getaway. Some are afraid to take the time off from work and others just aren’t sure how to plan such a trip. But every few weeks Events & Adventures does just that. Our members treat themselves to the chance to make new friends and have a spectacular time away from the grind of daily life. Just last month, a short three hour drive from the Valley of the Sun brought the Phoenix club to Pinetop, where a light dusting of snow was on the ground and a chill was in the air as we got settled into our cabin for the weekend.

No E&A getaway would be complete without the adventure, right? While we were there, we went skiing and snowboarding; some were experts and some were just learning, but all had a great time on the slopes. While the active group was taking to the snow, the less adventurous in the group went antiquing downtown, relaxed in the cabin and took a walk along the lake. Whether you are the thrill-seeking type or the lounging-around type, sometimes a weekend getaway is just what you need to take you away from your daily stress.

In the months to come, Events & Adventures Phoenix will be in Globe overlooking the valley, we’ll be taking to the Upper Salt River for some white water rafting, camping in Sedona in tents, and kayaking the Verde River, all in addition to our daily events around our great city. There is just so much to do when you are with the right people, and your hosts at Events & Adventures make sure of that. So regardless if you’re idea of a weekend getaway is an adrenalin-fueled adventure or an opportunity to slip away and relax, Events & Adventures has you covered!
