| Monica Dolan - Satellite Sisters - ABC Radio Networks: Why not online dating? "It seems like it's all about appearances and I don't want it to be all about appearances. So I opted to join a singles activity club. It's called Events and Adventures. Single people join and every night of the week they have an activity planned. On the weekend they have things like hiking or rafting, they have book clubs, they have movie nights, there's a lot of social hours and meeting at brew pubs downtown." Is there a screening process? Can anybody join? "Yes [there is a screening process]. No [not everybody can join]. They have to be singles of quality. I went and had the screening visit, I took a personality test, and I met with an owner of the club and we talked for about an hour-and-a-half. And I asked him, 'do people fail the screening?' And he said, 'Yes, they fail the screening.' They want members that are fun. And he said that if they accept weirdoes into the club, the other members aren't going to like that. And they make sure that your really interested in signing up for the activities because if no one goes to the events then it's a flop too." "And I'll tell you what's really impressive about this organization is...they're organized! They have event planners that work there full time. And I did a little polling with the people I had dinner with last night about dating, do members in the club date? They said, 'Yes, it happens all the time.' They've had marriages come out of the club, but that's not people's main motivation. The main motivation is to just get out there and be active and do fun things in the area. What I got from the group - there were a lot of happy members there." "There was no pressure or dating required - it's an activities club. I've done three events with the club and things are going really well. I went to a dinner event this week and it was called 'Beervanna'. It was dinner and it was beer tasting and it was great - really fun, good group of people." |
