VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA—Vancouver area singles who are fed up with online dating, bars and blind dates now have what their counterparts in other cities have been enjoying for years, now that Events and Adventures has opened a new location in town.

The concept is simple: plan fun and interesting activities that are attractive to active, professional singles and they will join. And join they have, in cities like Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Minneapolis and Phoenix, where members have access to hundreds of events each year, including comedy nights, jet skiing, horseback riding, sporting events, wine tastings, hiking, world travel, billiards and more.

“Our clientele is discriminating, but we literally have something for everyone,” said Mark Owen, president of Events & Adventures and originator of the concept. “We take care of all the details. All you have to do is show up and have fun.”

Events are designed so that singles with common interests can get together in a relaxed environment to meet and socialize. “There is no matchmaking or pressure to date,” Owen said. “You get out of it what you want, whether it’s a new friend that shares your passion for kayaking or the love of your life.”

Events & Adventures has been in business for 22 years, and is continuing to expand even in a down economy. “People are being more conservative and judicious with their spending overall,” said Owen. “However, our members recognize what a good value their membership is, given the quantity and quality of activities available to them. And you can’t place a dollar value on the friendships and contacts you make as a member of our club.”
